![]() That was another great thing about "The Cutie Mark Chronicles", it is just so adorable but doesn't go excessive with that (which it could easily have done). Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie are also interesting, so cute without being sappy (especially the latter). Rainbow Dash was my favourite and how she and the character interaction are written have a lot of emotional impact. All of them are treated with fairness and honesty, no bias or character distortion here. Achieving without any problem the difficult task of making all equally interesting and equally well developed rather than one or two being more so than the others and one neglected, doing that better than a lot of origin episodes for any show that focus on one character. As an origins episode it doesn't get much better, not just focusing on one member of the Mane 6 but all of them in a beautifully and always coherently structured story without being episodic. Not only is "The Cutie Mark Chronicles" a brilliant episode it is also quite a special one. Actually found it very interesting and touching, while also delivering on the entertainment value. Despite the title too, this is not Marked Crusaders-centric. Don't think from the title that it will be one of those episodes that is too cute with no depth, neither of those is the case here. One of the best episodes of the first season, one of the clear high-points of the season's less consistent second half and the best episode since another season and show high point "Sonic Rainboom". "The Cutie Mark Chronicles" sees the season, and 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' even, on brilliant form again. Of the previous 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' Season 1 episodes, the only one to do little for me (the only below average one) was "Over a Barrel", which actually started off well but fell apart badly quite quickly and that was a real shame. It, along with Rodney, was implicated as being responsible for AJ and RD's "missing cutie marks" when they're not drawn in.Īpplejack's trusty rope has been nicknamed Tim.Most of the previous Season 1 episodes, of one of recent years' best and most addictive animated shows, to me are pretty good to brilliant, with a few average but still watchable disapppointments along the way. There's a giant prize-winning apple named Calvin. Rainbow Dash has a "top of the range sleeping cloud" nicknamed Rodney by AJ that floats around the farmhouse. The Cutie Mark Crusaders also played a part in preventing Rainbow Dash's house from being fixed, thus extending her stay with AJ. Although the CMC often show up as a group, both Applebloom and Scootaloo have appeared without the other CMC. The CMC have made a few appearances in the blog, especially with 1/3 of them living at the farmhouse and the CMC clubhouse being located at Sweet Apple Acres. Supporting Characters Cutie Mark Crusaders There have been a few parallels made between Dash and a cat, such as her sleeping a lot, in a variety of odd places, a short attention span, and playing with toys like a cat. At one point AJ tried using Dash's competitive nature to get her to help out. Thus far, it would seem Dash is kind of lazy during her stay with AJ and can actually end up being more of a nuisance than helpful around the farm. Although Dash says it was an accident, it's unclear about whether Dash had a hoof in the event. Despite AJ's interest in Dash, the two headstrong mares also butt heads and deal with differences from time to time.ĭash has shacked up with AJ at the Apple family farmhouse following Dash's house blowing away. ![]() There are some playful undertones of AJ having a romantic interest in Dash that she never quite expresses and Dash being blindly oblivious to that fact. Applejack has allowed Dash to temporarily move into the farmhouse with her while Dash's house is under repair.
